Native Americans prospered in the Chesapeake Bay region
thousands of years before the first contact with European
explorers and settlers. The Maryland Historical Society
has an interesting on-line Historical Chronology of
Maryland settlement. The Chesapeake Bay Program
website has interesting Bay History sections including
an African American History in the Bay.
The Chesapeake Bay has a marvelous combination of
historical,educational and recreational sites which capture
the bay's past,let us enjoy the bay today, and help us learn to
preserve the bayfor the future.
